Why should I become involved in assessment development activities?
Participation in development activities provides educators with an opportunity to collaborate with colleagues from across the state and to contribute to the quality of education in Ohio.
What if I am planning to take an Ohio Assessments for Educators (OAE) test? May I still apply for participation?
All educators are welcome to apply, but those educators who are selected to participate in OAE test development activities should be aware that they will not be eligible to take the OAE tests for three years from the date of the development meetings.
How do I get involved in assessment development activities?
The first step is to complete and submit an application. Pearson will receive completed applications and present those completed applications to the State Board of Education of Ohio which will make final committee appointments.
Where are the meetings typically held?
Most meetings are held online using a secure platform.
How long should I expect to be engaged in online conference activities?
Online conferences may be for one-day, two-days, or three-days based on the activity. Your invitation will state the duration for your specific online conference activity.
Will my district get reimbursed for a substitute teacher?
At the completion of the online conference activities you will receive an email containing information about substitute reimbursement.
Will I receive professional development contact hours for my participation in the online conference activities?
At the completion of the online conference activities you will receive a professional development contact hour certificate for the number of hours you spent actively engaged in the work.
I have colleagues who would like to attend. May I encourage them to participate?
All interested participants need to submit an application, which will be considered by the SBOE. Please ask your colleague(s) to submit an application from this website. You may also nominate colleague(s) by completing a nomination form available on this website.
If I do not get selected to participate in an assessment development activity, are there other opportunities to get involved?
Yes, you could be involved in the following types of test development activities:
  • Content Validation/Job Analysis Survey. As a public-school educator you may be selected to participate in a survey to verify that the test competencies are related to the job.
  • Pilot Testing. If you are a faculty member in an educator preparation program, you may be asked to assist in pilot testing the draft test items for your field by encouraging your students to participate. Participating in the pilot test will allow students to preview the types of items that may be on the actual OAE tests.
