Preschool through grade 12 (PK–12) public and non-public educators and educator preparation faculty involvement is critical to the success of this educator assessment program. The Ohio Assessments for Educators are designed to:

  • help the State Board of Education of Ohio meet its goals of improving student performance and preparing candidates for college and career success by developing, licensing, supporting, and retaining quality educators.
  • offer rigorous, state-of-the-art, computer-based assessments for Ohio educators to demonstrate required content knowledge and skills, in all content levels and all grade levels.
  • provide assessments based on contemporary standards of teaching and learning.

Participants will:

  • have the opportunity for professional growth and to work in collaboration with educators from across Ohio and in their licensure areas.
  • receive contact hours documentation for time spent actively engaged in development activities.

Reimbursement

These guidelines apply to individuals who attend State Board of Education of Ohio and Evaluation Systems meetings for the Ohio Assessments for Educators.

Please note that payment will come from Evaluation Systems and will be sent directly to the committee member's designated school/district office.

Substitute reimbursement instructions will be sent following each conference/meeting.

Completed forms should be submitted to Evaluation Systems as soon as possible after the conference/meeting to ensure reimbursement in 4–6 weeks.

Please note: The Internal Revenue Service requires Evaluation Systems to have a social security number for all conference/meeting participants receiving expense reimbursements.

Benefits of Participation

Benefits of participating in this process include:

  • opportunities for professional growth and inservice credits (individuals should refer to their district's master inservice plan to determine if their participation qualifies for inservice credits)

Substitute Teacher

During the school year (contract days), Evaluation Systems will reimburse a PK–12 educator's school district for the expense of hiring a substitute teacher.

Lodging

Hotel accommodations are available for those residing 50 or more miles from the meeting location, for those who are unable to travel due to adverse weather conditions, or as otherwise approved by Evaluation Systems. Hotel accommodations will be directly billed to Evaluation Systems. Although committee members will not be charged for their rooms, they will need to leave a deposit or credit card number at check-in to cover incidental expenses.

Travel

Evaluation Systems will reimburse personal automobile use at the federal mileage rate, roundtrip ground transportation, or airfare. Evaluation Systems requires prior approval for car rental and airfare expenses. Parking and toll expenses will also be reimbursed.

Meals

Depending on the conference agenda, a continental breakfast and lunch may be provided on the day of the conference. For meals that are not provided as a part of the meeting, a per diem reimbursement of $25 will be provided.

Your Reimbursement

Your expense reimbursement will be sent within approximately four to six weeks upon receipt of your correctly completed expense statement(s) and if you have submitted the following:

  • W–9 form
  • Substitute Reimbursement Form (if applicable)

Please note that a new W–9 form should be completed and returned for each assessment development conference that you attend. This policy is in place to ensure that there is no delay in processing your reimbursement check.

FAQs

Participation in development activities provides educators with an opportunity to collaborate with colleagues from across the state and to contribute to the quality of education in Ohio.

All educators are welcome to apply, but those educators who are selected to participate in OAE assessment development activities should be aware that they will not be eligible to take the OAE assessments for three years from the date of the development meetings.

The first step is to complete and submit an application. Evaluation Systems will receive completed applications and present those completed applications to the State Board of Education of Ohio, which will make final committee appointments.

Most meetings are held online using a secure platform.

Online conferences may be for one day, two days, or three days based on the activity. Your invitation will state the duration for your specific online conference activity.

At the completion of the online conference activities, you will receive an email containing information about substitute reimbursement.

At the completion of the online conference activities, you will receive a professional development contact hour certificate for the number of hours you spent actively engaged in the work.

All interested participants need to submit an application, which will be considered by the State Board of Education of Ohio. Please ask your colleague(s) to submit an application from this website. You may also nominate colleague(s) by completing a nomination form available on this website.

Yes, you could be involved in the following types of assessment development activities:
  • Content Validation/Job Analysis Survey. As a public-school educator, you may be selected to participate in a survey to verify that the assessment competencies are related to the job.
  • Pilot testing. If you are a faculty member in an educator preparation program, you may be asked to assist in pilot testing the draft assessment items for your field by encouraging your students to participate. Participating in the pilot test will allow students to preview the types of items that may be on the actual OAE assessments.

Apply

Please complete an online application form to be considered for the Ohio Assessments for Educators development opportunities*. Upon receipt, your application will be reviewed by the State Board of Education of Ohio and Evaluation Systems. If your qualifications match an opening, you will be sent an email invitation to participate in assessment development activities. If all committees are full, your application will be kept on file for future consideration.

* Note: Educators must have the approval of their superintendent or their designee to participate in OAE development activities.

Nominate

Nominate your designees for consideration in serving on a Content Advisory Committee or the Fairness Advisory Committee to review materials for the Ohio Assessments for Educators.

Spread the Word

Share with School Administrators. Share this information with district-level human resources personnel, school principals, administrators, subject area coordinators, and supervisors who may be able to nominate educators to serve on assessment development committees.

Share with Educator Preparation Programs. Share this information with college deans, educator preparation personnel, faculty in arts and sciences, and others who may be able to nominate exemplary educators to participate in assessment development activities.
